As mentioned recently in the twodo.gs Twitter timeline, Yuki has been fighting a yeast infection in one of his ears for over a year now. We get ear wash and medicine, Mom works on his ear for a couple weeks and everything is fine for about a month, and then the infection come raging back. His ear will be beet red and full of scabs from him scratching it so much.
To me it seams odd that this would be a problem for Yuki as the ear with the problem isn’t flopped over like a Labrador, it stands up like a shepherd’s ear usually does. So it gets lots of air flow and shouldn’t be damp enough. Perhaps the problem goes deeper and he just has a week immune system to begin with.
We switched him to a dog food recipe that doesn’t have chicken in it, just in case he was fighting a chicken allergy. He appears to be scratching and biting himself less, so that might have helped, but his ear is still a problem.
One thing that does frustrate us, is Yuki’s habit of putting his head in dirty places when he sleeps. He will slip his head under a chest of drawers or a credenza where, no matter how hard we try, will accumulate dust, dog hair and spider webs faster than the open floor.
